Jack and the Boody Monster

Let’s pretend.

We should never underestimate the value of pretend play in child development. This kind of play helps to develop children’s imagination, curiosity and communication it also involves thinking strategies and social skills and helps children to make sense of the world. Adults should follow the child’s lead, be part of the action and join in the fun.

Using the story as a starting point encourage children to make up their own monster story. Most children love stories that are a little bit scary as long as they are in a safe environment and there is an adult to offer reassurance. Using cuddly toys or puppets can enhance the story and add to the fun.
